Here's what we'll do...
Thursday 27th August
We will meet over local Edinburgh gins at the Balmoral Hotel then travel through the beautiful Scottish countryside to the picturesque village of Peebles, about an hour south of Edinburgh. We'll stay in the centre of Peebles so that we have access to everything this quaint village has to offer. Dinner every night will be in one of the many outstanding local restaurants/pubs that proudly showcase the extraordinary produce and specialities of the area.
Friday 28th August
Each day will start with a fabulous full Scottish breakfast. Today we will explore the local area...starting with Traquair House where we will sneak in a pre-Festival tour of this fascinating part of Scottish history. We'll taste Traquair's very own ales and lunch at the The Garden Cafe in Traquair's Walled Garden. After lunch we'll venture further afield. The region was once a thriving hub for woollen mills and we will visit and tour Loch Carron - one of the few remaining mills. After "tea" in the nearby village of Melrose we'll wander back to Traquair, to join the locals for an evening of music and mirth...a fund-raiser for a local youth group.
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August
Time for that promised weekend of stimulating conversation and discussion! In it's 11th year, Beyond Borders International Festival promises and delivers an impressive program featuring 45 internationally renowned "thinkers" covering a diverse range of topics. I would encourage you to have a good look at previous years' programs. You'll get the idea. Tickets to the weekend are limited to 300 lucky people only, so we need to get in quick! Traquair house provides
a stunning backdrop to the event, and our Mary Shields from The Garden Cafe ensures that you will be well fed throughout the weekend.
Monday 31st August
A day of leisure with endless possibilities...a guided historic walk around Peebles...a spa day at Stobo Castle or Peebles Hydro...a long lunch at a local pub...or what about a day of fly fishing on the Tweed with the fabulous Fin Wilson? Really! Anything is possible...
